Kehlani reveals health battle just weeks before launching world tour

Kehlani is giving fans a closer look at the health battle she endured just weeks before launching her world tour, revealing that complications following sinus and septum surgery became a serious interruption to her preparations.

In a new vlog, the singer revealed that she underwent septum and sinus surgery after dealing with recurring sinus infections. Doctors discovered that her nasal passages were nearly completely blocked, prompting the procedure just three weeks before the tour’s opening night.

At first, Kehlani’s recovery appeared to be progressing normally. That changed when complications sent her to the emergency room twice and ultimately led to an emergency revision procedure.

Kehlani described the experience as “scary” and said doctors repeatedly warned her not to sing or dance during her recovery. The restrictions cost her much of the rehearsal time she had planned ahead of the tour.

Despite the setback, the Kehlani World Tour opened on August 6 in Minneapolis.

The health issues resurfaced later in August when severe pain and difficulty swallowing forced Kehlani to postpone shows in Camden and the Washington, D.C., area. The postponed dates were later rescheduled, and she returned to the stage in Virginia on August 29.

Looking back on the experience, Kehlani said the pressure of dealing with the complications ultimately strengthened her appreciation for being able to perform.

The experience also gave new meaning to something many people take for granted. Kehlani reflected on being able to breathe normally again, highlighting just how difficult the recovery had become.

Her account offers fans a behind-the-scenes look at the physical challenges that accompanied the launch of the tour — a period in which she was recovering from surgery, dealing with complications and being advised to avoid the very activities central to her work as a performer.

Still, the tour moved forward.
