The Dallas rapper was booked into Collin County Jail after an arrest by Allen police, forcing him to miss a scheduled festival performance.
Dallas rapper BigXthaPlug was arrested in Texas on Friday, August 21, and booked into the Collin County Jail on multiple charges, according to jail and court records.
The rapper, whose legal name is Xavier Landum, was arrested by the Allen Police Department and faces charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of less than two ounces of marijuana and unlawful possession of a firearm. The DWI and marijuana charges are classified as Class B misdemeanors, while the firearm charge is a Class A misdemeanor.
Authorities have not released detailed information about what led to the arrest. Allen police confirmed that Landum had been arrested but said they could not provide additional details because the investigation remains active.
The arrest quickly affected the rapper’s performance schedule.
BigXthaPlug had been scheduled to perform at the Country Rising Festival in Winnipeg on Friday. Festival organizers announced that he would no longer appear, citing a “personal emergency.”
He was also scheduled to headline the Grandstand at the Iowa State Fair on Saturday, August 22. As of Saturday morning, reports indicated that he remained in the Collin County Jail, leaving his scheduled performance uncertain.
An Arrest One Year Later
The timing of the arrest is notable.
Landum was arrested almost exactly one year earlier, on August 21, 2025, on charges involving possession of less than two ounces of marijuana and unlawful possession of a firearm. That arrest occurred on the same day his album I Hope You’re Happy was released.
According to reporting on that earlier case, Dallas police stopped Landum during a traffic stop and said officers discovered a small amount of marijuana and firearms in his vehicle. He was subsequently released after posting a $5,000 bond.
He had also been arrested in Arlington in February 2025 on a marijuana possession charge. Those charges were later dismissed, according to FOX 4.
The latest arrest therefore comes at a particularly visible moment in the rapper’s career, as his profile continues to grow beyond Dallas and the Texas hip-hop scene.
From “Texas” to a Wider Audience
BigXthaPlug emerged nationally with music that drew heavily from his Southern roots, with records including “Texas” and “Mmhmm” helping establish his profile.
His career has also increasingly crossed into country music. His 2025 album I Hope You’re Happy featured collaborations with artists including Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Darius Rucker and Shaboozey.
That crossover has helped position BigXthaPlug among a growing group of artists moving between hip-hop, Southern culture and country music without treating those genres as separate worlds.
The current legal situation arrives as that momentum continues.
But for now, the circumstances surrounding Friday’s arrest remain limited to what authorities and jail records have confirmed. No additional details about the allegations have been publicly released by Allen police.
An arrest is not a conviction, and the charges against Landum remain allegations unless proven in court.
RaptureStone will continue to follow the case as authorities release additional verified information.
