The Jamaican deejay’s latest single begins the formal rollout of a 21-track debut album scheduled for September 4 through VP Records.
Jamaican dancehall artist Malie Donn has released “Holiday,” the first official single from his forthcoming debut studio album, The Golden Child.
Released August 7 through VP Records, “Holiday” presents a lighter side of Malie Donn’s music, built around an upbeat dancehall rhythm and a theme of stepping away from everyday pressures. The song is accompanied by a music video filmed around a poolside setting.
The release is the latest stage in a rollout that has been developing around The Golden Child, which is currently scheduled for September 4. The album is listed as a 21-track project and is set to be released through VP Records in both digital and vinyl formats.
Malie Donn has described “Holiday” as a song about taking a break, enjoying time with friends and loved ones, and temporarily putting everyday stress aside. That framing distinguishes the record from the more street-oriented material that has formed part of his catalogue, while keeping the production within the contemporary dancehall format.
The single follows a series of releases that have increased Malie Donn’s visibility in Jamaica’s current dancehall landscape, including “V6,” “Cups Up,” “Body Tea,” “7:00,” “Van Cleef” and “Dungeon.” Rather than treating those releases as evidence of a particular commercial trajectory, they provide the catalogue from which the artist is now assembling his first full-length project.
The Golden Child also expands the collaborative side of Malie Donn’s music. The reported guest appearances include Squash, Byron Messia, DJ Frass, Antuwang, Puppy (Rifle), Javo Donn, Rated R and DRXGZ.
The album’s release schedule has changed during its rollout. Earlier reports in June listed July 26 as the planned release date, while more recent coverage from the artist’s label and music publications identifies September 4 as the current date.
That change is relevant because the project has continued to accumulate releases during the extended rollout. “Holiday” now arrives less than a month before the album, giving listeners a final preview of the project before its full release.
The timing also coincides with increased international attention around Malie Donn. Billboard has named him its Caribbean Up-And-Comer of the Month for August 2026, with its current feature examining his debut album and his place within the contemporary Caribbean music scene.
The Billboard recognition does not, by itself, establish where Malie Donn sits commercially within dancehall. It does, however, provide an indication of the wider industry attention surrounding the album’s arrival.
That attention now moves toward the music itself.
A debut album presents a different test from the release of individual singles. Malie Donn has already had the opportunity to introduce different aspects of his sound through standalone records and collaborations. The Golden Child will place those records alongside a larger body of material and make the relationship between them easier to assess.
“Holiday” suggests that the album will not be confined to one particular mood. Its subject matter is deliberately uncomplicated: taking time away, enjoying company and making room for leisure. Musically, it gives Malie Donn an opportunity to operate outside some of the harder themes associated with dancehall while remaining within the genre’s rhythmic framework.
The more consequential question will be what the remaining tracks add to that picture.
With The Golden Child currently set for September 4, Malie Donn is moving from a singles-led period into the more demanding task of presenting a complete album. “Holiday” is the first formal step in that transition. What follows will determine how effectively the project turns several years of individual releases and collaborations into a coherent statement of where he is as an artist now.
