Barbadian vocalist and songwriter Tionne Hernandez has spent years developing an identity that moves between soca, reggae, R&B and the wider Caribbean sound. From performing as a child to building a growing catalogue of contemporary releases, Hernandez has continued to develop her career within Barbados’s vibrant music industry.

Born in Bridgetown on December 14, 1995, Hernandez began performing publicly at a young age. One of her earliest notable stage experiences came when she was 10, when she performed with Peter Ram under the name “Typhoon”.

That early exposure to live performance became an important part of Hernandez’s artistic development.

FROM “TYPHOON” TO TIONNE HERNANDEZ

Hernandez’s musical journey has never been confined to a single genre. Earlier in her career, she explored R&B and soul while gaining experience through live performances and other creative pursuits in Barbados.

She has also been involved in the wider entertainment industry, with her work extending beyond music into modelling and acting. Hernandez was also involved in the creation of Teaze The Band, a Foreday Morning band.

Her transition into contemporary Caribbean music has brought her increasingly into the soca scene, where she has established herself as one of the Barbadian artists representing the island’s newer generation of performers.

A GROWING PRESENCE IN SOCA

Hernandez’s catalogue reflects her connection to modern soca and Caribbean dance music.

Her releases include “Bubble Up” on the Big Bad Ting Riddim, “Physically Fit”, “Shake It Alot” on the Vanman Riddim and “Move to the Left”.

Her work has also placed her alongside producers and performers from across the Caribbean, highlighting the collaborative nature of the region’s music industry.

“Physically Fit” brought Hernandez together with Father Philis, Jordan English, Spinny, Precision Productions, DreadHawk Productions and Pull De Trigga.

Her music has also continued to reach listeners through streaming platforms, with songs including “Shake It Alot”, “Move to the Left”, “Boy Bye”, “Only Vibes to Declare” and “Hold the Door” forming part of her recorded catalogue.

TAKING BARBADIAN MUSIC BEYOND THE ISLAND

Hernandez’s profile has continued to grow beyond Barbados.

In 2026, she joined a group of Barbadian performers presented at Toronto’s Departure Festival. The opening showcase at Lula Lounge brought together artists representing different aspects of Barbados’s contemporary music and culture.

Hernandez’s participation gave her an opportunity to perform for audiences outside the Caribbean while contributing to a broader presentation of Barbadian music.

Her international appearances have followed earlier performances at major events in Barbados. In 2025, she was included in the RISE Wednesday lineup at Kensington Oval alongside established Caribbean performers including Kes the Band, Alison Hinds and Skinny Fabulous.

A STEADY MUSICAL OUTPUT

The latest stage of Hernandez’s career has been defined by a consistent flow of releases rather than a single project.

Her 2026 catalogue includes “Only Vibes to Declare”, featuring Peter Ram, as well as releases such as “Cropover Days”, “Walk Out (Classic Riddim)”, “Hold the Door” and “Boy Bye”.

The continued release of new material demonstrates an artist maintaining momentum while exploring different sides of contemporary Caribbean music.

For Hernandez, the journey from performing as “Typhoon” as a child to appearing on stages in Barbados and internationally represents a significant evolution.

Her career reflects the changing nature of Barbados’s music industry, where artists increasingly move between genres, collaborate across the Caribbean and seek audiences beyond the island.

As Barbadian music continues to gain international attention, Tionne Hernandez represents part of a generation of performers helping to carry the island’s sound into new markets.

Her story is still developing, but after years of performing, recording and building her identity as an artist, Hernandez is entering a new stage of her career with an increasingly visible presence within Caribbean music.
