Sophia Bush Reveals She Secretly Married Ashlyn Harris in 2025

Sophia Bush has revealed that she and former professional soccer player Ashlyn Harris secretly married in an intimate ceremony in upstate New York in the summer of 2025.

The One Tree Hill actress disclosed the marriage Wednesday in an exclusive interview with Vogue, which also published an excerpt from her forthcoming memoir, And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress.

The ceremony was attended by Harris’ two children, Sloane and Ocean, who were part of the couple’s private celebration. Harris described the day as relaxed and centered on family, with the children picking flowers from the property before the family ended the evening roasting marshmallows together.

Bush said the decision to keep the wedding private was deliberate. Both women have spent much of their adult lives in the public eye—Bush as an actress and Harris as a professional athlete—and they wanted the occasion to initially remain something shared with the people closest to them.

Rather than announcing the marriage immediately, the couple traveled to visit friends and family and personally shared the news with them before deciding to make their marriage public.

Bush said the experience also changed how she wanted to refer to Harris publicly. After previously describing her as her partner, Bush explained that she could now simply call her wife.

The marriage revelation comes as Bush prepares to release her debut memoir, And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress, on October 27. The book explores her life and career, including her childhood, her rise to television fame, her experiences with marriage and divorce, and her years on One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D.

Bush and Harris have also spoken about the importance of visibility and family. In the Vogue interview, Harris said their public visibility matters beyond their own relationship because there are young people who may still feel unable to be open about who they are. Both women have been involved with LGBTQ+ advocacy, including serving on the board of the Human Rights Campaign.

The couple’s marriage had remained largely out of the public spotlight for more than a year. Its disclosure now gives a new dimension to Bush’s upcoming memoir, with one of the most significant developments in her personal life having taken place long before she chose to share it publicly.
