The actor became widely known as Bayside High’s Principal Richard Belding, a role he played across several installments of the popular television franchise.

Dennis Haskins, the actor best known for playing Principal Richard Belding on Saved by the Bell, has died at 75.

Haskins’ longtime agent, Jay Schachter, confirmed his death in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. Schachter described the actor’s passing as a “tragic loss” and remembered Haskins as someone who deeply loved his fans and always made time for them.

The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Haskins became a familiar face to television audiences in the late 1980s when he played Principal Belding on Good Morning, Miss Bliss. When the series was reworked into Saved by the Bell, Haskins continued in the role, becoming one of the show’s best-known adult characters.

Saved by the Bell premiered in 1989 and followed students at the fictional Bayside High School, including Zack Morris, Kelly Kapowski, A.C. Slater, Jessie Spano, Lisa Turtle and Samuel “Screech” Powers.

As Principal Belding, Haskins portrayed the school administrator responsible for maintaining order among the students while frequently becoming caught up in their schemes and misadventures.

The original Saved by the Bell ran for four seasons on NBC, ending in 1993. Haskins continued his association with the franchise after the original series concluded, reprising Principal Belding in Saved by the Bell: The College Years and Saved by the Bell: The New Class.

His career extended well beyond the role that made him a familiar presence to a generation of television viewers. Haskins worked across television and film for decades, but Principal Belding remained the character most closely associated with his career.

News of his death quickly prompted renewed attention to Haskins’ contribution to one of the most recognizable teen television franchises of the late 1980s and 1990s.

For fans of Saved by the Bell, his portrayal of Belding was an enduring part of the show’s identity, placing him among the adult performers who helped define the fictional world of Bayside High.

Schachter, who said he had represented Haskins and considered him a dear friend for more than 20 years, said the actor would be deeply missed.

Dennis Haskins was 75.
