Shawn Ashmore is trending after actress Christy Carlson Romano revisited their teenage relationship and alleged that the actor eventually ghosted her after she heard that people on his team believed she was not famous enough for them to continue dating.
Romano shared the account Wednesday alongside a throwback image of herself and Ashmore from Cadet Kelly, the 2002 Disney Channel movie in which they appeared with Hilary Duff.
According to Romano, she and Ashmore dated during the summer they filmed the movie and continued seeing each other for several months afterward. She said the relationship ended when she was eventually ghosted and later heard that Ashmore’s team did not consider her sufficiently famous.
“Hollywood is brutal for a young girl,” Romano wrote, connecting the experience to her decision to document her early years in the entertainment industry.
The allegation has drawn renewed attention to Ashmore and Romano more than two decades after Cadet Kelly premiered. Romano was already known to Disney audiences through Even Stevens, while Ashmore played Brad in the Disney Channel film.
Romano previously discussed the relationship publicly in 2022, when she told E! News that she and Ashmore had gone on several dates. At the time, she described the relationship as nothing serious and called Ashmore a gentleman.
Ashmore has not publicly responded to Romano’s latest account. Entertainment Weekly reported Wednesday that it reached out to the actor for comment.
