Woman Accused of Shooting at Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s Home Indicted on Attempted Murder Charge

A Florida woman accused of opening fire on Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s Los Angeles-area home has been indicted by a grand jury on 14 felony counts, including attempted murder, after a judge ruled that she is mentally competent to stand trial.

Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 36, of Orlando, Florida, was indicted on one count of attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with an assault weapon and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper. The indictment was unsealed Wednesday, one day after a judge determined that Ortiz was competent to proceed with the criminal case.

Ortiz appeared in court Wednesday and pleaded not guilty through her attorney. She was ordered to remain in custody on $2.6 million bail.

The charges stem from a March 8 shooting at the Beverly Hills-area property where Rihanna and A$AP Rocky live. Authorities allege Ortiz drove a Tesla to the property and fired at least 20 rounds from an AR-15-style rifle toward the home and a neighboring residence.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were inside an Airstream trailer on the property when the gunfire erupted. Investigators found bullet damage to the trailer, while additional shots struck the exterior wall of a second-floor nursery where the couple’s three young children were with their nanny.

No one was physically injured.

Rihanna’s mother and members of the household staff were also on the property, according to authorities. Ortiz was arrested later that day in Sherman Oaks, where police say she was found in the same Tesla.

The case was temporarily transferred to a mental health court after Ortiz’s defense raised questions about her competency to stand trial. After months of psychiatric evaluations, a judge ruled Tuesday that criminal proceedings could resume. Details of those evaluations remain sealed.

The grand jury returned the indictment in June, but it remained sealed while the competency proceedings were taking place. The new indictment replaces the charges Ortiz originally faced in March.

Prosecutors have alleged that Ortiz intended to kill Rihanna, but authorities have not publicly established a motive or identified a known personal connection between Ortiz and the singer. Ortiz previously told investigators, according to a police report, that she was not attempting murder.

Ortiz remains presumed innocent unless and until she is proven guilty in court.

The case is scheduled to return to court in October as the prosecution moves toward trial.
