Jamaican dancehall veteran Powerman is mourning the death of his 25-year-old son, Christopher Davey, who was fatally stabbed in Brooklyn, New York, on Friday evening.

Davey was attacked near 882 Albany Avenue in East Flatbush shortly before 5:30 p.m., according to police. He suffered multiple stab wounds to his torso and was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police are searching for two men believed to have fled the scene in a vehicle after the attack. One suspect was described as wearing a white tank top and blue jeans. No arrests had been reported as of Saturday, and investigators had not publicly established a motive.

Powerman, whose given name is Michael Davey, told Jamaican media that Christopher had been on his way to a nearby laundromat when he became involved in an altercation. According to the dancehall veteran, his son was less than a block from the laundry when the confrontation occurred.

DancehallMag reported that Powerman said two men were involved in the confrontation and that his son was stabbed. Investigators were reviewing surveillance footage as they worked to establish what led to the killing.

News 12 reported that Christopher had been sent to the laundromat by his mother. The station said two small bags of laundry were left at the crime scene following the attack.

For Powerman, the killing represents another devastating loss within a relatively short period. His older son, a 32-year-old trailer mechanic, died in May 2025 in what Jamaican media previously described as a case of misadventure. Christopher’s death therefore marks the second son Powerman has lost in roughly 16 months.

The latest loss comes decades into Powerman’s career in Jamaican dancehall. He emerged during the genre’s influential 1990s period as a member of the Monster Shack Crew and became associated with the Shocking Vibes camp and artists including Beenie Man and Baby Wayne.

His 1991 song “Stone,” produced by Steely and Clevie, became one of the records associated with his early career. His catalogue also includes songs such as “Gal A Call,” “Serious Things” and “Miss Kill and Bury.”

But the focus for the veteran deejay is now far removed from music.

Powerman has spoken publicly about the emotional impact of his son’s death and is seeking justice as investigators continue working to identify those responsible.

The NYPD investigation remains active. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the killing to come forward.

For a dancehall artist whose career was built during one of the genre’s most consequential eras, the latest chapter is marked not by a recording or performance, but by a family’s grief and a search for answers.
