A 31-year-old Christ Church woman has been remanded to Dodds Prison after the Barbados Police Service said she was arrested and formally charged with offences involving 40 rounds of ammunition and cannabis.
Marisa Kathey-Ann Jackson, of No. 9 Rendezvous Ridge, Christ Church, was arrested by members of the Barbados Police Service Narcotics Unit following an operation on August 18, 2026, according to information released by the police.
In a post published by the Barbados Police Service on Instagram, police said Jackson was formally charged with possession of ammunition, possession of cannabis, trafficking of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.
The police statement said the ammunition charge involved 40 rounds.
Authorities also reported that the suspected cannabis had an estimated total weight of 1.7 kilograms, with an estimated street value of BDS $6,800.
Court appearance
Jackson appeared before Chief Magistrate Douglas Frederick in District ‘A’ Criminal Court No. 1 on Friday, August 21.
According to the police statement, she was not permitted to plead to the indictable offences and was subsequently remanded to the custody of the Barbados Prison Service at Dodds.
A separate report by Barbados Today confirmed that Jackson appeared before the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court No. 1 and was not required to enter a plea to the allegation that she possessed 40 rounds of ammunition without a valid licence on August 18. The publication also confirmed the three cannabis-related charges.
Jackson, who is described in the court report as self-employed and is represented by attorney Shakira Emtage, was remanded until September 18, 2026.
Police investigation
The charges follow an investigation by the Narcotics Unit into suspected drug activity. However, the police statement released publicly does not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the seizure or the evidence investigators say connects Jackson to the alleged offences.
The distinction is important as the matter now proceeds through the courts. The allegations contained in the charges have not been determined at trial, and Jackson remains entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until proven guilty.
Her next scheduled appearance is September 18.
The case adds to a series of recent drug- and weapons-related matters appearing before Barbados’ courts, as police continue investigations into the possession and distribution of controlled substances and ammunition.
