Actor Chad Lowe and producer Kim Painter are mourning the death of their 13-year-old daughter, Fiona Hepler Lowe, with the family asking for privacy as they grieve.
The Lowe family confirmed Fiona’s death in a statement shared with PEOPLE on Tuesday, September 29.
“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona,” the family said.
They remembered Fiona as “a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance,” adding that she was adored by her sisters and deeply loved by her parents.
“In fact, she was the light of our lives,” the family said.
The family did not publicly disclose a cause of death. In their statement, however, they encouraged anyone experiencing mental-health difficulties to seek support and provided information for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
“Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time,” the family said.
Fiona was the second of Chad Lowe and Kim Painter’s three daughters. She was born on November 16, 2012. Her older sister, Mabel, is 17, while her younger sister, Nixie, is 10.
Chad Lowe, 58, has spoken publicly about his daughters and family life over the years. In November 2025, he marked Fiona’s 13th birthday on Instagram, celebrating her transition into her teenage years and encouraging her to “keep dancing through life.”
The family had also experienced a major loss in early 2025, when their Pacific Palisades home was destroyed in the wildfires that swept through parts of Los Angeles. Lowe later shared photographs of his daughters returning to see what remained of the house where they had grown up.
Fiona’s death has prompted an outpouring of attention around the Lowe family as news of her passing spreads across entertainment media.
Chad Lowe, the younger brother of actor Rob Lowe, is known for roles in television and film including Life Goes On, 24, Pretty Little Liars and Supergirl. Kim Painter is a producer who has worked in film and television.
For the Lowe family, however, the public attention surrounding Fiona’s death comes as they deal with a deeply personal loss.
Their statement closed with a request for privacy and a reminder that people struggling with their mental health can contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.
